Backing up digital photos to helps protect them from damage or loss should your hard drive fail. If you take lots of photos consider buying an extra hard drive or similar device to store and preserve image files and copies of unedited originals. You can also bum images onto CDs or DVDs.
After transferring and safely storing images, erase the memory card. Don't forget to format an empty card occasionally according to the manufacture's instructions.

When traveling or out in the field taking photos, many photographers take along special devices to transfer and store their images. Storage devices provide an alternative to purchasing several expensive memory cards.
Many of these devices are compact, portable and battery operated. They often contain hard drives like those found in mobile computers. Some have a LCD monitor to review images and play multimedia such a videos.
Online storage and display
Images can also be stored online for free at commercial photo finishing sites such as Ofoto and Shutterfly. Photo and hosting sharing sites provide space to display images online for free or for a nominal annual fee.
