Nikon launched special website for Nikkor lensesNikkor lenses - Reputation
After its introduction in the 1930s, the Nikkor, one of the first professional photographic lenses made in Japan, won high regard from photo enthusiasts worldwide. Nikkor lenses have always been manufactured to meet the most stringent requirements in the industry. From manual-focus lenses to the current DX-Nikkor lenses for the Nikon DX format, each Nikkor has been created to meet the demands of photographers and the evolution of our camera bodies.

Nikon lenses - Super Integrated Coating
Nikon’s exclusive multilayer lens coating, Nikon Super Integrated Coating, offers high permeability in broader wavelengths. As a result, flare and ghosting are virtually negligible in all current Nikkor lenses. The lenses have been created to offer superior performance, even with the recent range of high-definition digital SLR cameras. Nikon meanwhile continues to develop new technologies, including the Nano Crystal Coat.

By using this lens and the new Nikon AF-S DX Zoom-Nikkor 18-55mm f/3.5-5.6G ED lens, photographers have a focal length range from wide-angle 18mm to telephoto 200mm (providing a picture angle equivalent to a 27-300mm lens in 35mm format), covering an extremely wide variety of subjects and shooting situations. New AF-S DX Zoom Nikkor 18-70mm f3.5-4.5G IF-ED

A fourth DX format Nikkor lens is introduced today to join the growing range of lenses designed specifically for Nikon digital SLR cameras, the AF-S DX Zoom-Nikkor 18-70mm F3.5-4.5G IF-ED. With a practical wide-angle to telephoto zoom range of 18mm to 70mm it offers the analogue 135 format equivalent to 27-105mm for general photography with Nikon D series digital SLRs but attractively priced to enable anyone to start shooting digital SLR photography irrespective of the current camera system they might own. This is the first lens of its class to be offered in DX format, enabling a wide focal length range ratio. It effectively upgrades two existing AF Nikkors, it is smaller, lighter and more versatile than the existing AF 28-105 lens.
New AF-S DX Zoom Nikkor 18-70mm f3.5-4.5G IF-EDThe new lens offers a greater zoom range than the similarly sized AF 18-35. The DX 18-70mm incorporates three ED (extra-low dispersion) glass elements to minimize chromatic aberration and colour fringing, and aspherical elements to spread the light intensity evenly across the image circle without minimal distortion. The new lens continues the trend of G-type lens without aperture ring to offer precise 1/3 step aperture control via the camera body.

The lens incorporates Nikon’s exclusive SWM (Silent Wave Motor) so appreciated by professionals for fast and quiet auto focus performance whilst internal focus technology keeps the lens size and balance wherever it is focused, the solid and durable construction an indication of a no compromise approach to optimising image quality for high resolution sensors in use today.

The lens is available either included in a kit with a Nikon D70, or separately for users of all Nikon D series cameras that share the DX Format sensor standard established with the Nikon D1 camera in 1999.

Pricing and availability of the lens (and the D70 kit that includes it) will be published at a later date.

Nikon confirms new digital SLR: Nikon D70

After rumours appearing in the media recently, Nikon Japan now confirms the launch of a new digital SLR camera with exchangeable lens on the market in the spring of 2004, the D70. The D70 will appeal to a large amount of customers, from starters to experienced photographers. It will enable them to add the possibilities of digital technology to their already owned camera systems without a problem. The new model offers an extensive range of possibilities, using the Nikon state-of-the-art technology. This camera outstrips the existing products on the always developing market of digital SLR cameras, by combining the most important features of an analogue SLR with a high quality digital make, and all of this carrying a very attractive price.
Nikon confirms new digital SLR: Nikon D70The D70 will be sold in Europe with an extensive scale of objectives, amongst them a completely new, high quality DX Format Nikkor zoom objective. This objective offers focal ranges from wide-angle to telephoto. The basic price from the camera will be around 1100 Euro.

Background information about the development
From the moment Nikon launched the revolutionary D1 on the market in 1999, the company has never stopped looking for the highest possible image quality and performance concerning digital SLR cameras. In 2001 Nikon achieved the refinement of the D1 concept by introducing two new cameras, which were both attuned to the specific needs of the professional photographer: the D1X and the D1H. For the first time professional users were able to use digital SLR cameras and obtain results, comparable to analogue films. This formed the beginning of a new period of digital photography.

The D100, which appeared on the market in June 2002, made a re-definition necessary from the successful digital SLR concept, by meeting the needs of semi-professionals and business users. Nikon's reputation as world leader on photography standards was once again confirmed. Also once more the success of the Nikon F-objective mount and the DX sensor format was proved.

Together with the Nikon D series of SLR cameras, the D70 guarantees a problem free compatibility with over 40 AF-Nikkor lenses, amongst them the DX Nikkor line. This line is optimised to realise a perfect image quality using the full range of Nikon digital SLR cameras, amongst them the D1X, the D1H, the D100 and the new ultra fast D2H.

The Nikon offer presently consists of three DX Nikkor lenses that offer exceptional wide-angle possibilities:

The AF CS Fisheye-Nikkor 10.5 mm f/2.8G ED with an angle of 180°

The AF-S DX Zoom-Nikkor 12-24 mm f/4G IF-ED with an angle from 99° - 61°

The AF-S DX Zoom-Nikkor 17 – 55 mm f/2.8G IF-ED with an angle of 79° - 28°50'

More detailed specifications, like resolution of the sensor, the recording speed, the memory buffer and other pioneering possibilities will be revealed in a later stadium.

In a comment on the news, Robert Christina, Product Manager SLR systems at Nikon Europe says: "The D70 marks the next step in Nikon's conquest of the digital camera market. In 1999 Nikon opened up new horizons introducing the high quality D1 digital SLR camera. And now Nikon has built up a product offer that meets the needs of high-end professionals as well as business users as well as the 'normal' photography lover. The D70 offers the user, by integration of the popular Nikon DX sensor format and the Nikon F-mount, access to the full range of Nikon AF lenses and accessories. This new camera brings the sensation of digital SLR photography financially within reach of every photography enthusiast."

Announcement specifications Nikon D70

The Nikon D70 was introduced world-wide beginning of December 2003. The specifications were not revealed then but today we can announce them. The new D70 is a digital SLR camera that is within reach of many photography lovers now because of the attractive price. There are lots of people photographing with Nikon equipment who would like to step over to digital photography but are stopped because of the high costs of a digital reflex camera. Introducing the D70 brings digital reflex photography within reach. The recommended retail price is a lot more attractive than at the time of the introduction of the previous model; the D100. The D70 of course also uses the popular Nikon DX sensor format and the Nikon F-bayonet mount.
Announcement specifications Nikon D70This guarantees interchanging of almost all AF Nikkor lenses, amongst them most certainly the DX Nikkor lenses, specially designed for the Nikon digital SLR cameras. Together with the Nikon D70 Nikon introduces the new AF-S DX Zoom-Nikkor 18-70mm f/3.5-4.5G IF-ED, a lens that perfectly fits to a product like the Nikon D70.

The operation is fast, simple and intuitive because of the logical setting of the buttons and the easy accessible multi-lingual menus on the large TFT colour monitor. The handy select button offers direct access to the improved Scene settings (Digital Vari-Program) for a number of personal and automatic functions which help you to make perfect digital images under all thinkable circumstances.

The built-in flash pops up automatically when there is insufficient light, and can be used until a shutter speed of 1/500 sec. Nikon's new i-DDL flash technology is also supported by the D70. To enable the full use of the advanced flash possibilities a new Speedlight flash is also introduced: the Nikon SB-600.

The D70 is ready to use the moment it is turned on. The camera has a buffer for 12 JPEG (Large) images that can be captured at a rate of 3 images per second. For more possibilities of editing after a picture is taken, the camera can also store in RAW format (NEF files), or a combination of RAW+JPEG. The ISO values can be adjusted from ISO 200 until 1600 and can be varied according to the user's own desire. The rechargeable EN-EL3 Lithium-Ion battery guarantees hundreds of images with recharging once.

The specifications are inserted in the database of LetsGoDigital. By the way the database contains more than 550 digital cameras at the moment.

ACDSee 8 Photo Manager software

ACDSee 8 Photo Manager software : ACD Systems makers of ACDSee photo management software, today announced ACDSee 8 Photo Manager for enthusiasts. With the release of ACDSee 8, ACD Systems sets the standard in both speed and usability for enthusiasts who manage growing collections of photos. According to the Photo Marketing Association, more than 20 billion digital images will be taken this year in the United States alone. As cameras and camera phones create opportunities to shoot and store more pictures, it becomes increasingly difficult for enthusiasts to find, organize and share their digital photos. Everyone is discovering they require advanced photo management capabilities when their photo collections exceed 500 photos.
ACDSee 8 Photo Manager softwareACDSee 8 Photo Manager - Create VCD
Using ACD's industry-leading digital imaging technology, ACDSee 8 Photo Manager continues to be the fastest and most powerful software of choice for viewing, organizing, enhancing and sharing digital photos. Impressive new features in ACDSee include the Quick Search bar, the Photo Repair Tool, full IPTC metadata support, photo captioning and the ability to create VCD (Video Compact Disc) slide shows that take the photo viewing experience from the computer to the living room TV.

ACDSee Photo Manager 8 - Quick Search bar
"Because I have thousands of photos in my collection, I need a faster, more powerful tool than what is currently bundled with digital cameras or through free software available on the Web," stated Scott Shuppert, owner of CAD/CAM Services. "With ACDSee 8's new Quick Search bar, for example, I can instantly find any photo, and easily access all the organizing, editing and sharing features I need, without having to open another window. ACDSee saves me time and allows me to confidently manage my entire photo collection."With the introduction of the Quick Search bar, ACDSee 8 will find photos faster than any other photo management tool on the market. Simply type in a word and press Enter to return matches for that word within file names, keywords, categories and folders. The Quick Search bar eliminates the need to navigate through extensive Windows folder structures to find a desired photograph.

Photo Manager 8 ACDSee - Photo repair tool
ACDSee 8 features numerous editing enhancements, led by the new Photo Repair Tool. Incorporating sophisticated cloning technology, this correction tool allows users to instantly remove flares, lens scratches and other unwanted imperfections from their photographs. Users can also fix red-eye in one simple step and experiment with 27 new filters and effects to add artistic flair to their photos.

ACDSee 8 Photo Manager - IPTC Metadata
ACDSee 8 gives users easy access to new creative options, including the ability to add customized thought or talk bubbles, descriptive captions, or essential information like photographer credits. Also new in ACDSee 8 is the ability to create VCD slide shows of favorite photos and videos, set perfectly in time to music, for playback in any media application or on a TV using a DVD player. Several slide show projects can be burned to the same CD, and there is even the option to include the original images on the CD, to share with friends and loved ones. More advanced photographers can take advantage of ACDSee 8's fully integrated support for IPTC metadata fields, including captions, keywords, categories and credit. Edit or add information to these fields and they will remain with the photos when opened in another application that also supports IPTC metadata, and vice versa.

ACDSee Photo Manager 8 - Grow of digital cameras
"With the explosive grow of digital cameras and camera phones, the need for photo management software is greater than ever," said James Latham, vice president of Marketing for ACD Systems. "ACD was one of the early leaders in developing photo management software, and has continued to invest heavily in research and development. We've conducted extensive user testing to ensure that we deliver the features that photo enthusiasts need most. The new features and overall speed of ACDSee 8 empower our users to make the most out of their images, whether they number in the hundreds or hundreds of thousands."

Photo Manager 8 ACDSee - Pricing and Availability
The full version of ACDSee 8 is available in English for $49.99 (USD) or $39.99 (USD) for the upgrade from ACDSee 7. ACDSee 8 is also available in French, Italian, German, Spanish and Dutch. Volume licensing for ACDSee 8 is available and special pricing starts at five user licenses.

In independent tests, Bibble has always proven to be the quickest way to process raw files. With the release of Bibble version 4.3, the fastest gets even faster. Running under Windows, Bibble will process massive raw files from Canon Eos 1D Mark 2 or Nikon D2X cameras at a blistering rate that is twice as fast as the nearest competitor,” says Hyman.

Adobe also announced the availability of Adobe Premiere Elements, a complete home video editing solution. Premiere Elements and Photoshop Elements 3.0 can be purchased together in a single retail package.
Adobe introduces Photoshop Elements 3.0Combined in one affordable solution, these products deliver the powerful software customers need to easily blend still photos with video clips. Consumers can then create dynamic slideshows and photo-rich video projects - that can be burned to DVD and easily viewed by friends and family on the TV screen.

"Photoshop Elements remains the top-selling consumer photo editing product, leveraging our powerful Photoshop technology and its expert editing tools," said Bryan Lamkin, senior vice president of Digital Imaging and Digital Video products at Adobe. "However, people want to do more than edit their photos - they want to share them in fun and interesting ways with family and friends, as well as organise their rapidly growing photo collection. We have responded by creating one product that addresses these needs without compromising the quality editing Photoshop Elements is well-known for."

Adobe offers a complete family of Photoshop products that meet the needs of a diverse spectrum of digital photographers - from the casual snapshooter to the professional user.

Enhanced Editing Tools

Photoshop Elements 3.0 adds new ways to organise and share photos, to the award-winning photo editing functionality that has long been a hallmark of the product. The new Smart Fix analyzes a photo and with one-click, applies sophisticated enhancements to automatically improve photo quality. With improved red eye removal, a simple click in the vicinity of the eye makes red-eye disappear. Previously only available in Photoshop CS software - the professional image editing standard -- the powerful Healing Brush and the new Spot Healing Brush are now included in Photoshop Elements 3.0, allowing customers to fix blemishes and imperfections with one-click. Photoshop Elements 3.0 also supports Camera Raw functionality for the processing of raw data and 16-Bit images for the brightest and most lifelike colour.

Personalised Organisation

Photoshop Elements 3.0 helps users conveniently manage photos with simple search options and intuitive tagging. Photos can be arranged in any number of categories and sub-categories, freeing enthusiasts from time-intensive searches. Using the new Photo Compare mode, consumers can view two photos side-by-side, with the ability to lock one of the two photos down while scrolling through others -- ensuring that subtle differences, within a batch of similar images, can be detected by the user.

Showcasing and Sharing Photos

With Photoshop Elements 3.0 new sharing options include PhotoMail, which enables users to send framed photos within a themed e-mail, eliminating the need for family and friends to open cumbersome jpeg attachments. Customers also can create dynamic slideshows complete with photo captions, narration, music, special effects and transitions. Photoshop Elements 3.0 makes it simple to order photo prints and customised photo books through easy-to-access, integrated online services.

Pricing and Availability

Shipping later this year, Adobe’s consumer digital imaging and digital video products are available for pre-order today at www.adobe.co.uk . Nikon introduces Face priority AF

Nikon introduces Face priority AF : Nikon Corporation proudly introduces an exciting new technology which will make capturing sharp portraits extremely easy. This new technology carries the name of Face priority AF and the Nikon Coolpix 7900, 5900 and 7600 digital cameras will be the first to use this technology integrated in the cameras. The Face priority AF uses the newest technology to automatically detect human faces in a picture and then adjust the focus to this information. As a result the user only has to capture his family and friends on a random spot in the image. The camera then focuses correctly on the faces of a person. (The ability of recognizing faces can be limited depending on the shooting circumstances).
Nikon introduces Face priority AF Nikon Corporation succeeded in launching this new technology on the market in close corporation with Identix (USA), who enabled this technique based on their 'FaceIt' face recognition technology. Or like Dr. Joseph Atick, president and CEO from Identix puts it: "We are proud of working together with Nikon, a leading camera manufacturer, and being capable of making this face recognition technology available for the consumer market. With our FaceIt technology incorporated as a totally new function of the Nikon Coolpix cameras, users will be able to capture images of people in a completely new and comfortable way."

The new Nikon Face priority AF function is a great example of how Nikon builds on the success of the Nikon Coolpix compact digital cameras product line. The cameras are getting more and more user-friendly and it becomes easier every day to make fantastic photos.

Recently Nikon successfully introduced the advanced red-eye correction function. This technique automatically detects the annoying phenomenon of red eyes that sometimes occurs when taking portrait pictures with flash, then corrects the image with the in-camera image processing technology and as a result delivers fine looking portraits.

Nikon also allows users of digital compact cameras to improve the exposure of images already taken, by means of the innovative D-Lighting function. This function is ideal for shooting circumstances with too much backlight or for images with insufficient flash light. D-Lighting adds extra colour and detail to the dark image segments while well-exposed segments of the image remain untouched.

Nikon Coolpix S1 digital camera introduction

Nikon Coolpix S1 digital camera introduction : Some digital cameras are very stylish. Others simply take great pictures. Those looking for the best of both worlds will enjoy the latest addition to Nikon’s award-winning line-up of Coolpix digital cameras. Nikon today introduced the new ultra-slim Coolpix S1 - a 5.1-megapixel camera featuring state-of-the-art technology like the exclusive new Face Priority AF (Auto Focus) feature, enhanced image quality and improved speed, within a smooth, compact design. Along with the line’s first, bright 2.5-inch LCD screen, the ¾-inch thin Nikon Coolpix S1 is perfect for the customer who values style and sophistication on par with traditional Nikon performance.
Nikon Coolpix S1 digital camera introductionNikon Coolpix S1 - Breakthrough
“The new Coolpix S1 is a breakthrough for Nikon in terms of its advanced technology designed to take better pictures, easier than ever,” said Bill Giordano, General Manager of Marketing for Nikon. “The Coolpix S1 would be a perfect choice for digital photographers who want a sleek slim companion camera to capture memories whenever and wherever they happen.” With improved designs and exciting new exclusive technology, Nikon has narrowed the picture-taking process down to three simple steps.

Nikon Coolpix S1 - Face-priority AF
Imagine a camera smart enough to find a face in a portrait shot. Nikon’s new Face-priority AF function can do just that when selected through the Portrait Scene Mode. As its name suggests, Face-priority AF ensures that faces remain in focus when shooting portraits by automatically sensing the presence of a human face within the frame and setting accurate focus accordingly. The result is a sharp portrait with the press of a button. Beyond faces, the Nikon Coolpix S1 can also automatically detect and fix red-eye directly within the camera. The Nikon S1 boasts Nikon’s renowned In-Camera Red-Eye Fix technology, which detects and corrects red eyes in most typical situations without the need to press buttons or select and highlight the eyes in playback. Without the hassle of additional software, photographers will experience less red-eye photos yielding print-ready portraits.

Nikon Coolpix S1 - Intelligent technology
The new Coolpix S1 also uses intelligent technology to help ensure a balanced exposure and sharpness. Nikon’s exclusive new D-Lighting function is another addition that can literally turn throwaway shots into frame-able memories. The D-Lighting feature can be selected in Playback mode - automatically compensating for insufficient flash or excessive back lighting in order to obtain balanced exposure throughout the frame. The Nikon S1 is also equipped with Blur Warning, another feature unique to Nikon which alerts the user when a shot is compromised by camera or hand shake, allowing another shot to be taken before leaving the scene.

Nikon Coolpix S1 - Features
Nikon has engineered the new Coolpix S1 with more features that improve the image directly within the camera and streamline the process of receiving great prints using a favorite retailer, online service or home printer. Furthermore, with its incredible, bright 2.5-inch LCD screen, images are easier to review and share than on most consumer digital cameras. To further address a common need among digital camera users, Nikon has also focused its technology to reducing power consumption, allowing the Nikon Coolpix S1 to take significantly more shots per battery charge, using the camera’s rechargeable EN-EL8 lithium-ion battery. To add speed to precision, the Coolpix S1 offers continuous shooting at 1.8 fps. The blazing speed even continues into the startup time, with the Coolpix S1 starting up in less than 2 seconds.

Nikon Coolpix S1 - Scene modes
Like all the other models in Nikon’s popular Coolpix line, the Coolpix S1 makes shooting in a range of common situations even simpler through the incorporation of Scene Modes. This camera offers four Scene Modes that feature Scene Assist, and even a new Underwater Scene Mode and Voice Recording Mode that brings the total choice of Scene Modes up to 17. Intended for use with the Waterproof Case WP-CP5, the Underwater Scene Mode enables true-to-life colors to be captured when taking shots while snorkeling or scuba diving. Like all the other Scene Modes, operation is extremely easy. Simply select the Scene Mode that best matches the subject, then point and shoot for optimal results. The Nikon Coolpix S1 also makes it easy to capture action in an expressive manner with the power to record VGA-size movies with sound at a smooth rate of 15 frames per second. The S1 can easily be connected to a TV, using the included video cable, to share the fun with friends and family.

Nikon Coolpix S1 - Graphic user interface
With a redesigned graphic user interface (GUI), the Coolpix S1 user can now navigate functions by either menu item list or the all new icon view and the all new Help function. Now the camera enables the total beginner to find the right mode at the right moment to achieve the best results, time after time. It’s all part of Nikon’s dedicated effort to give users what they demand in a top quality digital camera.

Nikon Coolpix S1 - Scene modes
The announcement of the Nikon Coolpix S1 digital camera is targeted toward making a great picture easy through the use of automatic in-camera features, from the compact design to the host of time-saving features. The PictBridge compatibility makes it possible to print directly to a printer, without the need for a computer. For those who enjoy organizing and sharing their photographs on a computer, all Nikon Coolpix cameras ship with Nikon’s proprietary PictureProject software, a user-friendly photo management software designed expressly for use by Nikon Coolpix photographers that offers a broad selection of cataloguing, editing and sharing functions. This software package is aimed at providing a central location that is simple, intuitive and seamless for Coolpix digital photographers. nik Sharpener Pro 2.0 software introduction

nik Sharpener Pro 2.0 software introduction : nik multimedia announces nik Sharpener Pro 2.0 software, the upgrade to nik Sharpener Pro software. nik Sharpener Pro 2.0 software provides the easiest way for photographers and digital artists to optimally sharpen their digital images and achieve the best possible detail in their final prints. As a plug-in to Adobe Photoshop and other applications, nik Sharpener Pro 2.0 is the perfect addition to a photographer’s digital workflow. New features in nik Sharpener Pro 2.0 include 16-bit compatibility for sharpening 16-bit images, a larger preview area to allow users to see how the sharpening alters their images, and new tools offering more control of where sharpening is applied to the image.
nik Sharpener Pro 2.0 software introductionnik Sharpener Pro 2.0 software
“The original version of nik Sharpener Pro stood out as a better way to approach the complicated process of determining the optimum settings for sharpening software,” said Parker Plaisted, manager of product marketing for nik multimedia, Inc. “nik Sharpener Pro 2.0 builds on that strong foundation and adds more innovative tools for controlling where sharpening is applied in digital images.” nik Sharpener Pro 2.0 applies optimal sharpening to an image based on image resolution, viewing distance, paper type, and printer resolution rather than the traditional radius, amount, and threshold values used by other sharpening software.

nik Sharpener Pro 2.0 software - User-friendly
Many digital photographers do not know how to correctly select the optimal radius, amount, and threshold for sharpening their digital images and frequently over- or undersharpen them. nik Sharpener Pro 2.0 removes the guesswork and provides controls that photographers understand. The software then does the work of calculating and applying the optimal sharpening for an image. When preparing an image for printing, it is important to consider the printing process before sharpening the image. Each type of printing process has its own image rendering characteristics that influence the sharpness of detail in the print. nik Sharpener Pro 2.0 is designed to address the image rendering characteristics of different printing processes (traditional halftone, dye sublimation, inkjet, and digital photographic) and even differences between inkjet printer manufacturers (Canon, Epson, HP, and Lexmark).

nik Sharpener Pro 2.0 software - New tools
For photographers and digital artists who want to apply different amounts of sharpening to selected areas of the image, there are two sets of tools that allow users to apply selective sharpening: the sliders in the Advanced controls menu and the Selective tool. The Advanced controls menu in nik Sharpener Pro 2.0 provides five slider controls that can be associated with different colors in a digital image. Users can pick the color for a slider with an eyedropper tool or a traditional color-picker menu. Once the colors are selected, each slider allows users to increase or decrease the sharpening applied to areas of the image that have that color. For maximum control, each of the five sliders can be adjusted independently. This is the perfect tool for reducing the amount of sharpening on the face of the bride in a wedding photo or the sky in an outdoor photo. The simplicity and power of this tool is a true innovation in sharpening technology. Another powerful new feature of nik Sharpener Pro 2.0 is the Selective tool. This new tool allows users to apply sharpening to any part of an image with selective brush strokes. The sharpening can be selectively brushed into the image, or the sharpening can be applied to the whole image and selectively brushed out. This tool takes advantage of the layer technology in Adobe Photoshop and automatically creates the adjustment layer with a single mouse click. nik Sharpener Pro 2.0 also features a new RAW Presharpening filter. With the increased popularity of digital cameras offering the RAW file format, there is a growing need to presharpen digital photos from digital cameras. Presharpening is different from sharpening for final print. The RAW Presharpening filter is designed to enhance the detail in digital images that are converted from a RAW file format. The RAW Presharpening filter is controlled with a simple slider and a preview area. Although most digital cameras offer some presharpening, the nik Sharpener Pro 2.0 RAW Presharpening filter enables users to see and control the amount of presharpening in real time.

Determined to deliver the best tools and best user interface for digital camera users, Nikon conducted a worldwide survey of customer expectations, requirements and work habits before beginning development of PictureProject. Building an entirely new software architecture that empowers all customers to get the most out of their digital cameras demanded powerful features be wrapped into an interface that is easy to master.
Nikon announces Picture Project softwareIt also called for advanced programming that will allow for the addition of new features as the market evolves.

PictureProject is now ready to deliver the fruits of the intensive development and usability testing that mark Nikon's new software path for the future. The intuitive interface is designed to make users feel comfortable with all features within minutes, and to provide instant access to all stored images without having to search through hard disk directories.

Major features of PictureProject include the following:

• Image files are automatically imported when a camera is connected to the user's computer, and thumbnail images make it easy to confirm the memory card's contents.
• A single main window divided into three sections serves as the center of all operations.
• Only the window's center section changes when switching modes for an integrated and intuitive interface that minimizes the steps needed to accomplish all tasks.
• Buttons permanently placed along the top of the main window assure quick access to oft-used functions, such as Mail, Slideshow, Auto Enhance, etc.
• Drag-and-drop images to organize them into "collections" that can be easily accessed.
• View all stored images, only those from the last batch imported, or from individual collections.
• Locate any file quickly by name, keyword, captured or modified date, etc.
• Easy-to-understand editing tools help achieve the desired effect or finish quickly.
• Any and all changes made to images can be reset or modified as many times as desired without affecting the original image file.
• Slideshows can include background music for added ambience.
• Handy design templates make it easy to attach images to email, or make beautiful prints.
• New pop-up messaging service delivers software update notifications, and provides access for technical tips and other information.

PictureProject's new software architecture is built to include robust future expandability. Plans include offering users the option to purchase plug-in software that adds darkroom, filter and other effects, and that all operate within the familiar PictureProject interface.
The first filters to be available have been created by Nik Multimedia, and follow on from their acclaimed set of digital filters for Adobe Photoshop. Nikon Europe already offers a limited set of Nik Multimedia filters as a free-of-charge bonus to customers who register their products for the Fotoshare service.

PictureProject will appeal to users of any digital camera, although initial plans are to offer it exclusively to Nikon digital camera users. Beginning this spring, it will be included with newly released Nikon digital cameras, not merely as a complimentary offering, but as a powerful tool that adds value and enjoyment to digital photography. Signalling Nikon's intention to expand and further strengthen its software portfolio with add-on tools and higher-function products to come, PictureProject is about to change the digital photography experience.

Nikon Capture 4.3 software introduction

Nikon Capture 4.3 software introduction : Nikon Corporation is pleased to announce an update of Nikon Capture 4 to version 4.3, available for immediate download. This newest version of Nikon's powerful Nikon Capture image processing software adds new tools for image adjustments and improves selected processing functions. These improvements help to further optimize image processing for Nikon's exclusive NEF (Nikon Electronic Format) files. Also added is support for the new Nikon D50 digital SLR camera. As with previous versions, this update to Nikon Capture 4.3 software, also supports all NEF, JPEG and TIFF files produced by today’s Nikon camera models and legacy models as well.
Nikon Capture 4.3 software introductionNikon Capture 4.3 - New additions
New additions to version 4.3's performance include Color Aberration Control1 and Red Eye Correction. Color Aberration Control leverages the advantages of the NEF file format at the digital processing stage to detect and reduce the appearance of color fringing, (the chromatic difference of magni- fication), which typically appears in fine detail at the edge of the image; a result of the differing wavelengths of colors in peripheral areas. This new tool makes the reduction of the appearance of color fringing an automatic operation; just select the Color Aberration Control menu within Nikon Capture 4.

Multifunctional - Red eye reduction with JPEG, TIFF and NEF
The new Red Eye Correction function automatically diminishes the appearance of red pupils, sometimes experienced in the eyes of subjects photographed using a flash. Red Eye Correction works not only on JPEG and TIFF files, but also on NEF files. The Multi Image Window, which allows a variety of thumbnail displays and simultaneous editing of multiple images, is now easier to use. Names of preferred folders can be set to a title that the user finds easier to remember, all without changing the original folder's name.
